Director Wins Coveted Award

18 APR 2005

Neil Laughton, Opl (Office Projects Ltd) ' founding director has won the 2005 Ness Award from the Royal Geographical Society.

Founded in 1953, former recipients of the RGS Ness Award include Nick Danziger in 2000 and Michael Palin in 1998.

The prestigious award is given to "travellers, particularly those who have successfully popularised Geography and the wider understanding of our world and its environments" and reflects Neil's long-standing passion for expeditions and mountain climbing.

When not helping to run Opl (Office Projects Ltd) , Neil has organised and led adventurous expeditions all over the World and he is one of a handful of people to have climbed the "7 Summits" - the highest mountain on each continent. He has also pulled a sled to the North Pole, canoed to France and was the first person to Jet Ski around the UK.

Neil commented, "I was frankly surprised as well as delighted to receive the Ness Award. I know many of the former recipients personally and am honoured to be counted among their company." Asked how he found time for both Opl (Office Projects Ltd) and his adventurous activities, Neil said, "actually the two are remarkable complimentary. As an expedition leader I am constantly honing my leadership skills and find the tops of mountains a very clear space for thinking about corporate strategy."
